Sketching techniques for UX designers #2: Digital sketching

This half-hour tutorial video introduces you to the basics of digital sketching using an iPad Pro and Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. This time, I show you how to draw a storyboard panel showing a user in context – in this case, a woman using her mobile phone on the subway.

This is more complex subject matter than the usual flat UI wireframes, so there’s more to learn with linework. We’ll also be rendering the sketch with colour, shading and adding a background environment. I’ll show you how to make the most of digital features, using layers, airbrushes and photo underlays to keep things fast and flexible.
